Glaucoma is an eye disease that damages optic nerves. In Glaucoma, visual field loss increases, eye intensity decreases and the central vision remain unchanged, says an eye specialist from Kailash Hospital. Glaucoma not only affects the eyesight but gradually becomes a serious cause of blindness.
In the case of Glaucoma, the hollow space between eye nerves increases and a significant fibre loss takes place. When the optic nerves start damaging, the count of eye signals lowers down and the patient gradually turns toward blindness.
Types of Glaucoma:
1. Open Angle Glaucoma
2. Angle closure Glaucoma
Some of the symptoms of Open Angle Glaucoma are Headache (caused due to increased eye-pressure), Eye pain, Eye-redness, unstable number of eyeglasses, etc.
While in Angle Closure Glaucoma, symptoms that can be observed include photophobia, eye-redness, vision loss, etc. These symptoms usually require Doctor’s consultations and have to be addressed timely with Eye Specialists.
Several tests are carried out to identify the type and stages of Glaucoma. These tests include – Visual field test, OCT, RNF, and other eye-pressure tests.
Prevention & Treatment:
There is no specific treatment for the Glaucoma but it is preventive. To control the Glaucoma spread, several medical procedures are followed of them several run for a lifetime period.
