1. Head & Neck support

One of the most important tips while holding a new-born is to support the head & neck softly. In long 32 weeks of holiday inside the womb, they go around multiple developments, but even after birth they are slowly getting into shape. Till 4 months, they are unable to support their own head. Therefore the best way to make them feel comfortable is to cradle their head & neck while holding them in the lap. This helps the baby to keep the head erect while slowly the neck bone strengthening process is on.

New babies are very delicate and have very weak immune system. They are susceptible to infections very easily & quickly. Every doctor sanitize their hands before treating a baby. Make sure everyone who holds your baby has clean hands. Use of soaps or hand sanitizer is always recommended.

Babies cry on every little thing, when they’re hungry or sick. Some people shake the babies vigorously to shut them up or in play to make them smile. But this act can very dangerous, as it can lead to internal bleeding in the brain because the brain of new born is very delicate and soft. To wake your infant, tickle your baby’s feet or blow gently on a cheek. Never ever shake your baby.

4. Soothe your baby’s ears & eyes

Some babies are unusually sensitive to touch, light/sound & cry easily, sleep less than expected, or turn their faces away when someone speaks or sings to them. Keep noise and light levels low to moderate.

5. Check for Fever

Fevers are common in babies under 3-4 months. Just like adults, fevers are your baby’s way of fighting infection and babies actually tolerate fevers better than adults. But if fever stays more than a day, consult a pediatrician immediately.
